I've heard it said that a person's favorite season is the one in which they were born and I believe this may be true because I LOVE SUMMER! Because the summer in New England is so short, we’ve been enjoying it to the fullest, which leaves little room for things like blogging. So what have we been up to this summer? Lots of afternoons and evenings in the pool, meeting friends for walks in the park, plenty of trips up to the lake for boat rides, late night ice cream runs (none for Jack quite yet), birthday celebrations (mine, with Jack’s right on the horizon…where does the time go??), an offshore fishing trip for Marc and some good ol’ fashioned peace and quiet when we can squeeze it in. Even though the summer is slipping by, we still have a lot planned for August. I’ll try to be better about posting in a timely manner, but it’s so hard to sit down at my computer when the days are long and the nights are warm!
Jack has been doing all kinds of growing up in the past month. He’s recently begun saying actual words and using them in context. So far we’ve got Dada, Mama, ball, bubble, dog, uh-oh and a two-syllable word that sounds something like “tur-tle” or “puz-zle”. My vote is puzzle, but Marc thinks I’m nuts. Jack is also this close to walking. He takes a step or two now and then, but seems a little unsure of himself. He’s been standing on his own more and more, so I think the inevitable is upon us. Jack looooves to climb, which gives me heart palpitations. Yesterday he climbed onto my nursing footstool and from there climbed up onto my rocking chair!! I literally turned my head for less than a minute and he’d gone from the floor to standing on the rocker! Thanks to Grandma Carol, he learned to climb the stairs a couple of months ago, and he does so at every available opportunity. Huge thanks to whoever invented baby gates. Jack is becoming a lot more comfortable in the pool, so I guess those early morning mother-son swim classes at the Y paid off. The little guy has 6 teeth now, 4 on top and 2 on the bottom, which he’s been known to use to bite Mommy or his friends at daycare. Other than the biting, it’s been such a delight to watch Jack turn from a little baby into a toddler. He is always as sweet as can be, and loves to smile and laugh. The sweetest sound in the entire world is when I catch him and his daddy cracking up with their deep belly laughs!
